2009 Updates
JANUARY: Deborah Jungbluth, Frankfurt, Germany

WOW. We have now an excellent Internet connection. Peter and Ankie from the Netherlands did that possible. But not only that, the next step of the Wireless Project is to provide low consuming energy computers to the kids and to introduce them with the IT technologie. Could You imagine it? Here up on the hills, far away from everything, we will offer soon high quality computer courses!! Don't dream it, be it. Very well done Peter and Ankie. Congratulations.

JANUARY: New Office

Very welcome to the most beautiful decorated office of the entire region. Murakoze cyane Ankie and Deborah for your artistic work. You spent many days painting and decorating. Now the office's building shines and became a real attraction. What a privilege is to work in such a place. Bravo Ankie and Deborah.

JANUARY: New Sign

Some years ago Stephanie Rimarzik painted and designed a huge sign with the words: L'ESPERANCE. After a while the sunny and rainy wheather damaged it. Then Deborah and Ankie came and spent several days repainting it. Now the sign looks brand new and everyone can read it clear also from a long distance. Thanks Deborah and Ankie for Your excellent work.

JANUARY: New Sewing Technology

Our tailoring school got a brand new sewing machine. It is a completely different model and with it, it will be possible to make better and more sophisticated dresses. The tailoring school is aiming to make more business producing and selling more innovative products. Teachers together with students will soon produce more income and reach sustainability. Congratulations.

JANUARY: Let the Sun Shine

Since already several years the orphanage had problems with the old solar system. It was not enough solar power to cover the most basic needs of the kids. The children were forced to do their homework under the weak light of paraffin lamps. Thanks to Peter and Ankie from Wireless Rwanda that changed. Now eight new solar batteries are absorbing the energy from the sun and giving us lots of energy. Thank you so much, Ankie and Peter, for improving the quality of our lives. And now let the sun shine!!

JANUARY: Marcell's Eyes

Many times we sent Marcell to the hospital and each time they gave us the same answer. There is no help for him. Only cornea transplantation is the solution and such an operation cannot be done in Rwanda. Marcell was doomed to get blind. But would you believe it?!! Greg Hodgson and his friends from Colorado are willing to help him. Marcell will fly relative soon to USA to be there operated!!! WOW! Thanks Dear Greg for such a fantastic display of goodness and kindness. May Marcell come back to Rwanda with strong and healthy eyes. WOW! It is the beauty and goodness of life! Murakoze cyane cyane.

JANUARY: At War

Yes, we declared war against intestinal worms. Bonnie Thomas and her team from Rotary Club Denver provided us with worm medication for all our children and workers. Now our kids can get rid of all those parasites and get stronger and healthier. Thanks Bonnie for improving the health and well being of our kids. In six more months we will repeat the treatment and hit again all the worms. I am sure that we will win this war.

JANUARY: Let it Be Light

Flashlights are precious in rural Rwanda. It is impressive how dark the nights can be up on the hills. Therefore we asked Greg Hodgson and Evan Thomas to provide us with seven solar flashlights. We knew that those flashlights are very expensive but we also knew that they are the best. And life is full of amazing surprises... Greg and Evan gave us over SEVENTY solar flashlights. WOW!! Now our kids and also our workers have excellent solar light. There is no need to be afraid of darkness. Thank You too, Dear Deborah, for engraving names in each one of those flashlights. Thanks to each one of you for bringing so much warmth and light into our lives. And now, let it be light!

JANUARY: Baby House

Our Kindergarten called " A joyful Noise" moved to the living room of the baby house. Deborah and Ankie did that possible. They spent several days sorting out stuff and organizing the new Kindergarten room. Our little family members have now a much better place to learn and to play. It is wonderful to see the baby house full of babies and little kids being together. They all make indeed a great noise... but a joyful one! Excellent done Deborah and Ankie. We miss YOU. Muchas Gracias.

MARCH: Camera and action!
Darbyfilms from New York in cooperation with Global Water Challenge came to the orphanage to produce a short film about our water systems. It was exciting to watch them filming the rainwater catchment and water purification systems. Darbyfilms interviewed some of our kids and staff members. We want to express our gratitude and thankfulness towards EWB- Colorado, EWB- Johnson Space Center, Rotary Club Denver and Manna Energy Limited for bringing pure abundat water to the Children's Village Kigarama. The access to pure/abundat water is making a real difference in the lives of all our children. We are looking forward to enjoy that short movie. Camara and action....Merci beaucoup!!
