June 2007: Lights, Camera, Action
Since a long time we had the desire to produce some DVD's from the orphanage. Jeff Wagnaar from Colorado, USA, came to make that dream a reality. Very soon those short DVD's will be available. We are sure that we all will like them! Thank You so much Jeff! It is indeed a privilege and a pleasure to film together with You!
January 2007: Bon Fire
Could You imagine orphans celabrating an american bone-fire party far away on the hills of Rwanda?! Nancy Raphael an the team of Avista Hospital in Colorado, USA, made that possible. It was fascinating to experience the kids dancing and singing around the fire, but even more fascinating to see the kids eating american chocolates, biscuits and MARSHMALLOWS.... wow!! Thank You Nancy for such an unforgettable evening! MURAKOZE CYANE.
January 2007: Miriam
Miriam Wyrwich is our new volunteer. She arrived in Rwanda on January 2007 and will remain with us nine months. Miriam will help us at the kindergarten and also teaching English. Very welcome to Rwanda Miriam. You will be a huge help and blessing to us! May all your wishes and dreams become true. It is great that you are here. Now Rwanda is your new home.
February 2007: Harvest Time
The harvesting time has come. The kids are celebrating a real vegetable party. Now the orphanage has plenty fresh vegetables and the children enjoy them. Would you like to join us? We have enough to share : 945 kg tomatoes, 177 kg carrots, 320 cabbagges, etc, etc, and of course huge eggplants. Wow... and that is only the beginning!
March 2007: Xaverine and family
Our baby family is growing. We have now six precious babies. May I introduce You with the last two little ones? Life up on the hills of Rwanda is not easy at all. It is an incredible mixture of pain, misery and joy. We can not help everyone. But at least six babies are now alive. May the sun of life shine upon each one of them. May they grow and develop. May each one of them become strong, happy and healthy children!
April 2007:LOUISE
Louise is the first of our six babies who was admitted in the orphanage. She was the older of our Baby Home for nine months. Now that she finally became two years of age, Louise was welcome at the Children's Village Kigarama. Suddenly she became the youngest one and got over one hundred brothers and sisters. Dear Louise, may the Princess in You shine, grow and develop. Very welcome home.
April 2007: PATRIQUE AND SOLANGE
Dear Patrique and Solange, You lost your parents due to an almost incredible hatred. May love grow and develop in Your hearts. May You both become happy and healthy children and help to stop the misery of Rwanda. Very welcome home.
May 2007:Schools In!!
During this month our kindergarten was opened to the public. The main teacher Elisee together with our German volunteer Miriam Wyrwich are taking care of eleven of our own kids and nine neighboring children. Twenty children are getting right now the privilege of attending a unique kindergarten program. All the three teachers have plenty to do, their work is intensive and demanding. They are sowing in the hearts and minds of the children's precious seeds.Very well done Dear Teachers!! Your work could change the future of Rwanda.
May 2007: Building brighter tomorrows through stronger communities!!
Community work ( Umuganda ) is written in Rwanda with capital letters. The last friday of each month is reserved for work activities that benefit the community. Over 130 persons from the neighborhood came to the orphanage to help us to dig the erosion channels of the avocado orchard. They worked very hard for several hours and were a huge help and blessing to the orphanage. Now the erosion channels are almost finished and we can continue the development of the orchard project. Thanks so much to each one of our neighbords!!!
June 2007: No More Mosquitos!!
Malaria is a serious problem in Rwanda. It is quite often that also our children get bitten by the mosquitoes and become sick.
Very soon that will change. CRS ( Catholic Relief Services ) donated to the orphanage seventy mosquito nets. Now our children can have indeed a good and safe sleep. No mosquitoes bites anymore during the night. Wow! Malaria will get less and less... MURAKOZE CYANE!!!
June 2007: Growing and Growing
Our family is getting bigger!!! Jonathan Hodgson arrived just some weeks ago to the orphanage. He came from USA and will stay with us a whole year. He already started teaching English and is conducting several different projects at the Children's Village. Jonathan is very motivated, enthusiastic and fulled of energy. We are sure that he will be a huge help and blessing to each one of us. Jonathan, THANKS SO MUCH for coming to Rwanda!!! May You grow and learn...May each one of Your goals and dreams become true!! It is great that YOU are here!
July 2007: A Rainbow came to the Orphanage
We painted the entire orphanage. Each single house got a different and distinctive color. Now the orphanage looks very neat and attractive. The family Crane from USA donated over 200 canes of different colors. We could almost say that a beautiful rainbow descended from the sky and decided to live with us. Thanks Dear family Crane for bringing so much color into our lives and thanks Miriam Wyrwich for designing the colorful rainbow!
July 2007: Pizza Anyone??
"Yes. Now our cook Rasta can finally bake bread directly at the orphanage. Miriam Wyrwich and her home church in Germany made that possible. The bread is indeed delicious and the pizza are gorgeous!! Would You like to join us in the next "Pizza Party"? You are very welcome. "
July 2007: Worm, Worm, Go Away!!
"Yes. We have declared a war... A war against worms. Everyone at the orphanage is getting right now parasite's medication. Very soon our kids will be healthier and gain more weight. Centura Health Center sent us enough medication to win at least for this year the war against the worms. MURAKOZE CYANE!!! "
August 2007: 8000 Liters of Pure Water
Would You like to drink a glass of pure water up on the hills of Rwanda? Very welcome! Engineers Without Borders- Johnson Space Center Texas did that possible. They came and installed a very efficient water purification system. It is a combination of three different kinds of filters ( stone, sand and ultra violet ). The Ultraviolet filter is been powered with a small solar panel. Now the children can drink all the pure water that they may want, up to 8000 liters per day.WOW. Thanks Texas for sharing so much pure water with us
August 2007: Clean Hands
Now our children can have indeed clean hands. Cory and Sarah from the University of Denver Colorado came and installed four Tippy-tap systems. The hanging plastic cisterns are very simple but also very effecitive. When the children leave the latrines they can immediatly wash their hands with water and soap. Fantastic. Thanks Cory and Sarah for improving the life quality and hygiene of our children. You both did a great job. Muchas Gracias.
August 2007: Hurra! It's Raining!
We are collecting now lots of rain water. Engineers Without Borders Colorado came and installed six rain water catchment's systmes. Each family unit got a tenthousand liters water cistern. WOW. Rwanda is a very rainy country and now we will have enough water to cover our most essential needs. it is great to have so much rain and it is a pleasure to gather water from the clouds. Thanks Colorado for so much water.
August 2007: No More Nasty Smoke!
Friends from Colorado came and won the battle against the terrible smoke. Engineers Without Borders Colorado rebuilt one of our kitchens and installed a very effective and efficient stove. The smoke production is minimal and the firewood consumption was reduced to 50 porcent. Now Rasta, our cook, has a much better and healthier kitchen. Well done Dear Friends. we all will keep enjoying Rasta's food!
August 2007: New Sewing Machines
Today a dream became true. Angie Jourdan from Germany gave a brand new sewing machine to each one of our four young tailors. Now they can start their own bussiness and make a living out of it. Thanks Angie for coming to Rwanda and make a real difference in the lives of people. You made dreams possible!!
September 2007: New Plates
Stephanie Rimarzik from Germany came back to the orphanage and spent some weeks with us. Steffi is supporting intensively the kindergarden and the baby project. She also donated hundred brand new metal plaits and cups for the kids. Now the children will enjoy the food even more in their new plaits. Thank You Steffi for sharing so much with the kids and for improving the life quality of the chidren. We wish You success in Your studies and only the best for Your life.
October 2007: A New CD
Our children did something very special. It is the first time in the history of Rwanda that a choir composed only by orphans produced a CD. Friends of Jesus Choir produced the CD called " SAVE AFRICA". The kids are very happy and proud of it. They sing the song "Save Africa" in four different languages: Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, French and English. The Kids sing very well and their CD has a very strong potential. Congratulations Kids! Very well done.
October 2007: Miriam is Gone
Miriam Wyrwich went back to Germany on October 2th 2007. She spent with us nine fascinating months. Miriam left very deep prints in our hearts and minds. We will never forget her warm personality and attractive character. Thanks Miriam for living and dealing with us. You brought a lot of joy and color into our lives. Please keep growing, shining and never stop hugging... We will miss YOU!
October 2007: Welcome!
Miriam Wyrwich transformed an ugly - dusty wall into a beautiful colorful Mural. She together with Elisee painted the map of Rwanda in the middle and each one of our kids put their handprints around that map. It is indeed impossible to overlook that piece of art. The design and the variety of colors are very attractive and impressive. Thanks Miriam for such a warm WECOME!!!
October 2007: 6 Volcanoes
How would You named each one of our family units? Of course. With the name of the Virunga Volcanoes: Karisimbi, Muhabura, Sabynyo, Mikeno, Gahinga and Bisoke. Rwanda is the land of a thousand hills and now we have six volcanoes to increase the beauty of our landscape. Would You like to climb one of them with us?Thanks Miriam Wyrwich for taking the Virungas close to us.
November 2007: Benefit Concert in Kigali
Another impossible dream will become soon a reality. The orphanage will conduct the last Sunday of this year a benefit concert in the small national stadium of Kigali. Our choir " Friends of Jesus" will launch their first CD called " Save Africa". We hope that over 2500 people will enjoy the concert. Among them could be Ministers, Ambassadors, Directors of NGOs, Bussiness People and many possible new friends. It will be a very exciting way to end the year 2007.
December 2007: More Mango Party!
'Wow. We got over 2000 Mangos from Burundi. We all will have a delicious Mango party... mmmhhhnnnnnn! The mangos are huge and exquisite!!! We are planing to increase the orchard to 1000 more papaya trees and 500 more mango trees. We will get the seeds from the mangos that we will eat!!! Would You like to join us? KARIBU."
December 2007: WELCOME, WILLKOMMEN, BIENVENIDOS ....
"Yes. Each one of YOU are very welcome to the Children's Village Kigarama. Friends from all over the world have already accepted our friendship and hospitality. We hope YOU will be the next one. We have now a new sign in five different languages expressing our desire to welcome YOU. Please keep in mind that one of the thousand hills will be waiting for YOU with arms wide opened. Thanks Elisee and Anne Herrig for painting and desgining the beautiful sign."
December 2007: Very Welcome Coletta and Aloys
Coletta and Aloys came to the orphanage just a couple of days ago. They lost both parents due AIDS. Dear Coletta and Aloys, we will never be able to replace fully Your parents, but we will do our best that You both can feel at home. You got suddenly a lot of brothers and sisters. May the beauty and goodness of life shine and confort You. May Your new home provide You with many precious and beautiful moments. Welcome kids. Very welcome to a new life. A pleasure to be with.
December 2007: Keep on going kids!
The children have now school holidays and they are helping us with their work in an incredible way. Jonathan Hodgson reorganized the work program and motivated the children to work with joy and energy. It is a big pleasure to see the kids having fun by the work and understanding the blessing of it. The entire orphanage looks now like a beautiful garden. Keep learning and working kids. YOU are GREAT!!!
