Children Village Kigarama is one of seven orphanages run by the German NGO, L'Esperance Children's Aid International. Established by Mr. Paul Kowoll in 1983, this organization supports over 660 orphans and runs schools for nearly 2500 students. L'Esperance Children's Aid International has children villages in Ethiopia, Uganda, Brazil, Bolivia and Rwanda.
Activities in Rwanda began in 1995 following the war and genocide that devastated the small country. Founded and named Children's Village Kigarama, the orphanage has been running here on nearly 8 Ha of fertile land. Within our complex, there are six houses to support 103 orphans.
Where We AreLocated in the heart of Africa is the land of a thousand hills, an appropriate name given to the gorgeous rolling landscape of Rwanda. This small country once known primarily for its mountain gorilla population, gained further reputation following the genocide of 1994 that killed nearly 1 million people in only three months. The wounds of the tragedy are today still deep and present within the Rwandan population.
Our Mission
The Children Village Kigarama has the goal and capacity to care and accommodate for 100 orphans. We supply within our means, the basic needs of the children including food, clothing, shelter and education. Our goal is to provide a good, harmonic environment for the intellectual, spiritual, social and physical growth of all our children.
